Did you always like corn? Well after this, you’ll like it even more, believe us! There’s more to the corn than its kernels. Actually, corn silk is also a wonderful ingredient for your health. Corn silk are the long shiny fibers at the top of an ear of corn. 

Corn silk has a lot health benefits. It can help if you have health problems such as:  inflammation of the urinary system, bladder infection, bedwetting, inflammation of the prostate and kidney stones. Corn silk can also be used to treat diabetes, congestive heart failure, obesity, high cholesterol levels, arthritis, high blood pressure and fatigue.

It contains vitamins, proteins, minerals, fibers and carbohydrates. It can also be used as a diuretics. To gain some of the health benefits from this wonderful ingredient, you’ll need to make a corn silk tea.

Here is all you’ll need to make your tea:

– ¼ of a cup of fresh corn silk or 2 tablespoons of dried corn silk

– 2 dl of water

– lemon juice

– 1 tablespoon of honey (optional)

Just like any other tea, you’ll need a boiling water, which you will pour over the corn silk. Cover the tea and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Strain the mixture and add lemon juice and maybe honey if you want it to be sweet.

You should drink one cup of the corn silk tea for ten days, and then make a 5-day break. If you have an acute inflammation, you should drink up to three cups of the tea every day.

The corn silk tea is safe for pregnant women as long as they take it in normal amounts. Larger amounts are not safe and can cause a miscarriage because corn silk may stimulate the uterus.
